A personal note
Perhaps this evening resonates with us particularly because Bo and I lived next to a traditional Dutch pub in Alkmaar for many years. We didn't have a front garden, so our bicycles were always parked in front of the window. For our privacy, we had a film on the window: we could see out, but not vice versa… although it sometimes served as a mirror. It was simply hilarious how we would sit on the sofa in the evenings while someone applied lipstick through our “window.”
This unpretentious coziness – a little chaotic, a little loud, but always lively – is simply part of what makes evenings like this so special for us. And that's exactly the feeling this Dutch evening evokes.
