A Fairy Tale in the Forest: Theater and Wonders at Landgut Nijenburg – Friday, 15 to Sunday, 17 August 2025

Whenever the three of us – my husband, our 17-year-old daughter, and I – walk through the Heiloo Forest and the white facade of Huis Nijenburg reflects in the pond, it always feels like a little gift. This 17th-century estate exudes tranquility, history, and romance. And this summer, a very special experience is added: Hendricks Karavaan invites you to three days of theater, music, and wonder.

Stories that guide you through time and garden

Hendricks Karavaan is no ordinary performance. You walk through the garden and the house in small groups, being surprised along the way by short performances, live music, dancing, and stories so fictional they could almost be true. My daughter isn't quite so little anymore, but I can well imagine how much fun it would be for younger children too. Painting tiles, learning the steps of the fan dance, and strolling together through the atmospherically lit garden in the evening – it sounds like something out of a dream.

Our dog Phoebe is staying home this time, as dogs are unfortunately not allowed on the festival grounds. Understandably, but she would have loved it. Luckily, the three of us are making it a special outing together.
