A morning just for you: Cacao ceremony in Akersloot (Sunday, February 15, 2026)

I'm not one of those people who are quick to say, "You have to do this."

But with this one I thought: That looks really nice.

If you feel that your body could use a little more softness,

But your brain doesn't quite know how yet…

Then this could be the perfect time.

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, a cacao ceremony will take place in Akersloot, organized by Boerderijcoaching. A Sunday morning dedicated to peace, mindfulness, and connecting with oneself – without pressure to perform, without obligation, without making things difficult or complicated.

For anyone wondering: Is this something for me?

Probably not.

What exactly is a cacao ceremony?

Raw ceremonial cacao is often described as a "heart opener." This isn't meant vaguely, but quite literally: it helps you clear your mind and feel the vitality within you more intensely in that moment. Everyone experiences such a ceremony in their own way and at their own pace. There is no right or wrong.

The morning begins with setting a personal intention. Afterwards, you'll drink cacao together and be guided through meditation, music, and touch (hands) to connect with your body and heart. Then there will be tea, snacks, and time for writing, sharing – or simply pausing for reflection.

Personal (and honest)

I'm not one of those people who immediately ascribe spiritual meaning to everything. But I am curious. And I've learned that some experiences need to be felt, not understood.

During our Thailand vacation last September, Bo and I used a body scrub made with coffee grounds. It might sound fancy, but basically it's just about rubbing yourself with warm oil and a sticky mess and then trying to get out of the shower looking somewhat normal. There was only one shower, so—yes—we did it together. We had a blast.

But honestly, my body felt so relaxed and soft afterward that I suddenly understood why such rituals have existed for so long. Not because they are "necessary," but because they work. And I find exactly this feeling—gentleness, mindfulness, slowing down—again in this cacao ceremony.

Five tongue-in-cheek facts about cocoa

Cocoa was once considered a sacred drink, but let's be honest: it also makes you happy.

Raw cacao contains compounds that can improve mood. No guarantee, but a nice side effect.

– It relaxes you without making you sleepy.

Cocoa is often described as "love in a cup". That sounds wonderful, but sometimes a warm feeling is enough.

– And yes: chocolate is also cocoa. Strictly speaking, you've been practicing for years.
