Two days of outdoor dining, music, campfires, good vibes, and somewhere in the background probably someone already claiming to be Heemskerk's new grill master 😄

At Landgoed Marquette, the round building is transformed into a large barbecue area full of smoke, spare ribs and enthusiastic grill masters at the end of May.

Last year it was just one day. This year they're making it a whole weekend.

And quite honestly? We understand that.

Practical information

What can you expect?

The preliminary round of the BBQ competition begins on Friday evening.

Teams battle for the title: "Who makes the tastiest spare ribs in Heemskerk?" And believe us, some take it really seriously 😄. During my recovery from surgery, I once spent hours watching BBQ Pitmasters, and since then I've viewed such competitions differently. Thermometers. Homemade spice blends. Discussions about smoking wood.

People are completely engrossed in their ribs, as if it were a competition. Meanwhile, you stroll leisurely around the grounds with something delicious in your hand.

Saturday: Finale, music and lots of fun.

The final takes place on Saturday, and the grounds will be expanded with music, food stalls, and activities for children. Keep the following in mind:

  • roast marshmallows

  • a bouncy castle

  • Live grills

  • long tables outdoors

  • and above all, lots of fun

5 things you might not know

  • Grill masters are truly a breed apart 😄 One wrong piece of meat and it looks like someone is losing a World Cup final.

  • There's a good chance you'll overhear a discussion about smoking wood, temperature, or the "perfect spice mix," even though you only came for a sandwich.

  • The smell of fire and meat hangs heavy over the entire property.

  • Even if you don't like barbecuing, it's secretly really fun to watch these fanatical teams.

  • This is typically one of those events where you "just drop by for an hour" and then suddenly don't leave until much later.

From Boutique Stay

This is exactly the kind of event that doesn't require detailed planning.

Just go. Walk around a bit. Eat something. Eat some more.

And before you know it, you're suddenly standing there looking dead serious in front of a sparerib jury, as if you were on BBQ Pitmasters 😄
