On Wednesday, August 7, Bergen's city center will be transformed into a fairytale. During the Candlelight Evening, the Ruinekerk (Ruine Church) and its surroundings will be festively illuminated with candles, lanterns, and thousands of tiny lights. The entire village will radiate warmth with music, performances, and a welcoming atmosphere. Everywhere you look, you'll see people strolling around, enjoying themselves, and being enchanted by all the beauty.
This special evening is a beloved tradition in Bergen—and rightly so: It's romantic, cozy, and enchantingly beautiful. The Ruïnekerk (Ruined Church) forms the radiant centerpiece, but the surrounding gardens, alleys, and squares also contribute to the festivities. Look forward to intimate concerts, art, dance, and a sea of lights that will warm your heart.
Tip: Bring a blanket, buy some snacks, and enjoy the atmosphere. It's also fun with kids (especially if they bring their own lanterns!).
