Do you know what it's like to be a damsel in distress or a squire?

Walking through a castle where everything has remained unchanged for centuries... and suddenly you're right in the middle of it.

It might sound a bit exaggerated. Until you're actually there.

What is so special about it?

On Pentecost Sunday, the doors of Landgoed Marquette open. And not just a little bit – you can simply walk right in.

In a castle that one normally only visits when getting married, being invited, or having something to celebrate.

Yes, this is one of those moments when you think: Either I go now, or I'll hear from someone else later how much fun it was.

Let's travel back in time.

The history of this place can be traced back to around 1250. What began as the castle of Count William II developed into the present-day Marquette.

A place where generations have lived, worked, and presumably experienced quite a lot.

And you can feel it without anyone having to explain it.

What you can expect

Guided tours of the castle start hourly between 10:00 and 16:00. The guides will take you through rooms you wouldn't normally get to see and tell stories you would never otherwise hear.

Not just the beautiful aspects, but especially the details that make them interesting.

And then?

Just stay a little longer.

Enter the property, find a seat on a terrace, order something, and have a look around. A place where you don't feel the need to leave immediately.

Who is this for?

For everyone who's always wanted to go in. And now finally has a good reason to do so.

5 unexpected things that happen

  1. You enter the room and automatically adjust your volume → as if you weren't allowed to speak too loudly here, even though you don't know why.

  2. You see these beautiful dresses and think: very nice... but how often were they actually washed? And how many layers of clothing were needed for them to still be acceptable?

  3. You walk through a room and think: People really lived here… and didn't just sit neatly at a table.

  4. You hear a story and realize: It was probably much less romantic here than it looks.

  5. You go outside and think: That was much more fun than just "taking a quick look at what it looks like".

Finally

Some doors are rarely open.
