Three young musicians. A music competition. And a friendship that is now traveling through the most beautiful concert halls in Europe.
Some meetings last an afternoon. The meetings of Enzo Kok, Charlotte Brussee, and Maxim Heijmerink changed their lives.
They met at the Princess Christina Competition. All three won prizes. But even more importantly, they discovered how well they sounded together. From this encounter of three young musicians, the Van Gogh Trio was born.
And quite honestly? Stories like these always make me a little happy. Not because someone wins a prize, but because something wonderful eventually comes from something small.
On Sunday, September 27th, they're playing at De Zwaan Cultureel in Uitgeest. And that's perhaps the best part for me. You'd expect to hear a trio like this in Amsterdam or at the Concertgebouw, rather than in our own village.
From competitions to concert halls
The Van Gogh Trio has become an indispensable part of Dutch chamber music.
After their performance at Podium Witteman, everything happened very quickly. They played at the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, were featured on NPO Radio 4, and are gaining increasing international recognition. They are now members of the Netherlands String Quartet Academy and are invited to prestigious masterclasses.
Quite impressive.
But when you watch them play, you mainly get the impression of observing three friends who are having an incredible amount of fun doing what they're doing. And perhaps that's their greatest strength.
Perhaps this is the most beautiful way to start a Sunday.
I'm noticing it more and more often.
Our weekends are packed to the brim. A bit of shopping. Another birthday. Another household chore.
A quiet Sunday morning can also be quite pleasant.
A cup of coffee. A comfortable armchair. An hour of live music. No phone. No rush.
Sometimes you don't have to do anything at all to have a beautiful morning.
First music, then lunch at the harbor
Would you like to make a proper day trip out of it? Then De Zwaan has come up with something great for that.
You can purchase a ticket including lunch at the Breeze restaurant in Uitgeest harbor. After the concert, you can enjoy a leisurely lunch there.
I personally think that's a wonderful combination. First an hour of music, then a quiet lunch overlooking the boats. That's my idea of a relaxing Sunday.
