Some evenings start quietly… and end with the mascara proving to be no longer waterproof.

The comedy dinner at Restaurant Klaas in Uitgeest offers a combination of a sumptuous 3-course meal and an evening full of stand-up comedy, witty jokes and live entertainment.

First, a good meal.

Then the microphone is switched on, and the atmosphere automatically changes from "cozy dining" to tables where laughter is rolling around.

With performances by Sidney Smeltz, Reinier Meijer and Robert-Jan Proos, this will not be a harmless "Haha, funny" evening, but rather one of those evenings where you think several times: Okay, stop... I can't breathe anymore.

MC Niels Andriessen hosts the evening and ensures a good atmosphere from the start.

Perfect for an evening with friends, colleagues, or a date where you can be sure there will be no awkward pauses.

5 things you might not know

• Stand-up comedy at dinner is more dangerous than you think. One inappropriate joke with a sip of wine, and things can go wrong.

• The best comedy nights usually begin at tables where the people don't know each other beforehand.

• The Dutch always think they “don’t like comedies”… until they leave the theater laughing and crying.

• The atmosphere at Restaurant Klaas has completely changed tonight. There's no talk of a quiet meal anymore; instead, the conversation is more along the lines of: "Who started talking about mothers-in-law again?"

• There really is such a thing as secondhand embarrassment in live comedy. And that's often what makes it even funnier.
