Western riding enthusiasts can look forward to a special event in Koogdijk near Uitgeest in January. The Uitgeest boarding stable is hosting two reining clinics with internationally renowned western rider and trainer Anne Grether on Saturday, January 10th and 24th, 2026.
Reining is a discipline in Western riding that emphasizes precision, cooperation, and trust between rider and horse. From the outside, it may appear effortless, but a closer look reveals the immense amount of technique, timing, and feel required. This is precisely what makes these courses so appealing – even for those who don't ride themselves.
The days begin at 9:00 a.m. A total of 14 riders from various parts of the country are participating. They receive one-hour lessons in pairs from Anne Grether, ensuring intensive support and plenty of individual attention. This makes the event not only educational for the participants but also entertaining and inspiring for the spectators.
Visitors and spectators are welcome. To ensure a calm and orderly atmosphere in the stable, we kindly ask you to register in advance with Karin Winter at 06 29 21 03 55.
Anne Grether is an international competitor in Western riding. She recently returned from the USA, where she trains regularly and participates in competitions. There, she works with her friend Cira Baeck, who has been a trainer in America for several years. Anne travels regularly to the USA to participate in tournaments and brings this international experience back to the Netherlands. This makes these courses truly special: you experience knowledge and expertise directly from the international competition circuit.
What makes these days so special for us is the location. The grounds where Boutique Stay Uitgeest now stands were formerly Heijnes Riding School and later Galensloots. We live here and have our holiday homes here, but horses remain inextricably linked to this place. And let's be honest: when we lived in De Kleis, we had horses ourselves. So I've always had a special relationship with horses – even though I've never done Western riding myself.
In the following video you can see Anne in action at a competition – it's been 11 years, but still impressive to watch:
