Some mornings feel special from the very beginning – and Sunday, January 11, 2026, is one such morning. Because instead of a typical coffee concert, Casa de Fado Amsterdam is coming to Uitgeest. A group of young musicians who Soul of Portugal The result is a fresh, modern, and unexpectedly intimate Sunday morning experience.
And quite honestly? Anyone who grew up with Fado (like me) feels immediately drawn to it. This raw, warm, melancholic sound… it's simply deeply ingrained.
Why this concert touches me personally
Fado was played every day at our house. Amália Rodrigues, Mariza – all with that typical Portuguese sound. My mother still plays it every day. My father was a great music lover, and fado was definitely one of his favorite genres. That's how this love was awakened in me, too.
And then there was this one incredible story… Bo and I were chilling at a superclub in Amsterdam when a group of people lay down next to us. We got talking and one of them said: “You probably don’t know us, but we have a gig tomorrow.”
It turned out to be Cristina Branco's crew – the great fadista herself. Of course, I immediately bought tickets for her concert in Alkmaar (where we were living at the time). And the best part? We got to go backstage afterwards. Such an unexpectedly beautiful moment, when music, warmth, and memories suddenly came together.
Perhaps that's why Fado always touches me a little more deeply.
