Sometimes it's the smallest things that make your world bigger.
A detail that one normally overlooks. A sound that one suddenly perceives differently.
Like the gentle humming of a bee.
On Monday, February 16, 2026, Jaap Molenaar will give a lecture on wild bees at Captain Rommel's Garden. No heavy theory or lecturing, but an evening full of wonder, knowledge, and surprising stories.
This is one of those lectures where you think to yourself beforehand: Well, okay.
And afterwards you realize: Hey… I see things differently.
Why this is a great evening
February is one of those months when everything seems to stand still.
The garden is asleep, the days are short, and little seems to be happening outside.
But beneath this stillness, everything is already in motion. Wild bees are preparing, finding their spots, and following their usual routes. This presentation will give you a glimpse into this hidden world – right in your neighborhood, sometimes literally beneath your feet.
An evening that not only informs but also inspires. And that opens up a new perspective for you.

Five facts about bees (that you probably didn't know)
1. Bees sometimes get sugar water from humans.
Not as a treat, but as a temporary pick-me-up in winter or early spring. Basically, a warm cup of soup after a long day outdoors.
2. Many wild bees do not live in a beehive at all.
They nest in wood, sandy soil, hollow stems, or even empty snail shells. What we consider disorder is a perfect habitat for them.
3. Some bees only fly a few hundred meters in their entire lives.
Their world is small, manageable, and just the right size. A truly beautiful philosophy of life.
4. Bees are true gourmets.
Some species visit only a single, specific flower. Not out of luxury, but because they are perfectly adapted to it.
5. Bees learn and remember
They recognize colors, patterns, and paths, and make smart decisions based on their experience. Small body, big memory.
