From the Christmas market to the theater seat: Petticoat at the Kennemer Theater – May 29 and 30, 2026

Sometimes you get the best tips completely by chance. Not through a newsletter or a poster, but simply… at the Christmas market.

Among the lights and stalls, we struck up a conversation with a group of fantastically costumed women. Even before I knew exactly what they did, you could feel it: they were radiating energy, joy, and pride. As it turned out, they were performing in the musical "Petticoat," which will be staged at the Kennemer Theater on May 29th and 30th, 2026.

And yes – some of them live in Uitgeest. That makes a story like this even more interesting.

Why a petticoat is such a great tip

Their enthusiasm was infectious. No rehearsed speeches, but stories about rehearsals, costumes, music, and working together on a magnificent project.

Set in the 1950s and 1960s, "Petticoat" tells a story of dreams, love, and the desire to forge your own path. With its vibrant colors, fast pace, and a healthy dose of familiarity, it's a musical that will make you smile – and stay with you longer than you expect.

From village to theatre

What I personally like is that this isn't some pretentious performance. You simply meet the participants in the village and soon see them on the stage of the Kennem Theatre. This adds an extra dimension to the evening – without making it feel oppressive.

Simply put: entertaining, well done, and close to the mark.

Finally

This tip came about during a pleasant conversation at one of the Christmas market stalls – and that's precisely why it's on our list of excursions. We're happy to share with you trips born from enthusiasm, starting nearby and taking you a little further afield.

Perhaps we'll see each other next year not only at the market, but also at the theatre.
