Irish melodies, stories and sing-along songs: Dockside – Sunday, March 22, 2026

A Sunday afternoon filled with Irish folklore, captivating stories and music that will naturally enthrall you.

Sometimes you just need an afternoon to escape the everyday routine. To a place of the sea, of stories, homesickness, and celebration. On Sunday, March 22, 2026, Dockside brings just that atmosphere to Uitgeest. With Irish folk music, poignant ballads, and joyful sing-alongs, they'll take you on a musical journey around St. Patrick's Day – Guinness isn't required, but dancing is.

Irish music that moves you and makes you happy

Dockside plays music that lingers in the mind. Moving ballads alternate with drinking songs and battle songs, with recurring themes such as the sea, the life of a fisherman, and the longing for Ireland. Music for listening, but equally good for dancing.

What makes this band so special is its musical breadth. Besides Irish folk music, you'll also hear Scottish, Yiddish, French, and Dutch traditional music, all arranged in the unmistakable Dockside style: warm, energetic, and full of feeling.

Dockside from Heemskerk already proved last year that they can thrill and entertain their audience. This Sunday afternoon promises another fantastic mix of atmosphere, conviviality, and musicality.

May I introduce myself?

Dockside was founded in 1994 in Wijk aan Zee and consists of:

  • Marc van der Meij – accordion and vocals

  • Jos Molenaar – double bass, guitar and vocals

  • Marleen Plooij – violin and vocals

  • André Uitgeest – vocals, guitar and tin whistle

They've released three albums, the most recent being "Made on the Shore" (2011). For years they've been playing in North Holland and far beyond. Their own description? Their music is as sparkling as a good Guinness – and we're not saying no to that.

5 interesting facts about Dockside

Because it's fun to get to know each other a little:

  1. They've been playing together since 1994. So long, in fact, that sometimes a single glance is enough for them. You can hear it in their interplay.

  2. Homesickness and a celebratory mood go hand in hand. From melancholic ballads to cheerful sing-alongs – Dockside effortlessly switches between genres.

  3. Their music reaches far beyond Ireland. While Irish music forms the basis, influences from other countries are also clearly audible.

  4. The sea almost always plays the main role. Fishing stories, ships and distant shores: you can almost smell the salt water.

  5. Standing still is difficult. Even if you only wanted to listen, you quickly find yourself tapping along or quietly singing along.
