Luuk is from Alkmaar, and that's why we immediately felt at home with him. Our daughter Jools was born there – right in the city center, on Lindenlaan, almost directly under the sails of Piet's Mill. A tiny house, far too little storage space, but enough love to keep the walls warm.
Perhaps this is the reason why Luuk's gentleness and down-to-earth perspective are so effective: The humor in Alkmaar has just that little bit of eccentricity that allows one not to take the world too seriously.
In his performance “Vacht, ” Luuk explores how we protect ourselves—sometimes with bravura, sometimes with silence, sometimes with a story where you only realize halfway through that you've already laughed. His style is gentle, dry, musical, and surprisingly authentic. It's as if someone filters the noise out of your head, leaving only the beautiful aspects.
