Okay, wait a minute... a meal together in Uitgeest?

We hadn't been to Krelis for far too long.

Not because we didn't enjoy it, but mainly because a short trip these days requires a bit more planning. Luckily, my mother can easily walk short distances, but 1.9 kilometers there and back is a completely different story. That's why we usually decide more quickly on a destination nearby or simply stay home.

This time, however, I had dutifully organized the car, and we drove to Krelis again for an evening.

And that turned out to be a really great idea.

Shared meal in Uitgeest

Krelis has introduced a new concept for communal dining. You can order and share various small dishes, allowing you to try a larger part of the menu.

And that's really dangerous when, like me, you have absolutely no choice.

Why eating together is actually perfect

What I like best about eating together is that I usually want to try everything on the menu, but in practice this usually has a slight disadvantage:

"the contents of my stomach."

Now we could simply order a little of everything. Add another dish, try something else, order another drink, and discuss at length what tasted best.

Until suddenly a dish appears on the table that immediately makes you think:

Oh no... I'd rather not share that at all.

Then, suddenly and unexpectedly, the meal together transforms into:

Hands off my plate!

From people "just popping in" to those who sit at the table for hours.

What started as "just popping in for a quick look" eventually ended with a table full of small dishes, drinks, a complete beverage tasting, and of course, an Irish Coffee to finish.

Not for the driver, of course.

These were for my mother and Bo.

And perhaps that was indeed the best part of the evening. Just sitting somewhere again, the three of us, without any hurry, without a plan, and simply enjoying the time.

5 things that make eating together at Krelis special:

1. We only wash a few dishes.

   In retrospect, this estimate proved to be rather optimistic.

2. Eating together is really ideal for people who absolutely cannot decide.

   That's perfect for me.

3. The table became increasingly full as the evening progressed. Our self-control, however, did not.

4. The Irish coffee wasn't for the driver. That seemed the wiser choice to everyone involved.

5. You know an evening was a success when you go outside and think:

   Okay… when does it start again?

   
   

Why we like Uitgeest so much

Ultimately, that's perhaps exactly why we love living here. You don't always have to go to Amsterdam or the seaside to do something nice. Sometimes it's right around the corner.
