Berry picking around the fort – Fort aan den Ham is truly worth a visit!

Today, Bo (my husband and volunteer at the fort) and I were at Fort aan den Ham. It was an open day, so it was a great opportunity to see this special place up close. And it's so beautiful there!

The fort was built around 1903 and is part of Amsterdam's defense line. You literally walk through history, among old walls, secret passages, and beautiful details. Guided tours were available, it was pleasantly busy, and the sunshine made the day perfect.

But what I liked best? There were wild blackberries everywhere—sweet, ripe, and ready to be picked. So, in addition to the crop, you could simply enjoy a delicious snack in the greenery.

Fort aan den Ham is not always open, so be sure to check the calendar at www.fortaandenham.nl to see when the next open day is.

We really enjoyed it – maybe we’ll see you there next time!
