Six rounds of bridge, mini spring rolls, soup, a full Chinese buffet, ice cream, and prawn crackers with drinks. In Uitgeest, they take the saying "enjoying bridge" literally.
On Saturday, October 3rd, the Stichting Promotie Bridge Uitgeest will hold its bridge auction at Danny's Palace. And you certainly won't be expected to sit by your bidding box with a dry sandwich that afternoon.
You start with coffee, play a round, get something to eat, continue playing and before you know it, you're eating Foe Yong Hai in the middle of the game.
First bridge. Then dinner. Then bridge again.
You can come by for a coffee or tea from 10:15 am onwards; the first round starts at 10:45 am.
After that, the schedule is surprisingly simple: bridge and food. After the first round, mini spring rolls are served, after the second, soup, and after the third, an hour is reserved for the Chinese buffet.
And this buffet is anything but symbolic. The menu includes dishes such as Foe Yong Hai, Tjap Tjoy, tofu with vegetables, Babi Ketjap, satay, chicken in sweet and sour sauce, rice, nasi, and bami. Afterwards, there are three rounds of bridge, each with a scoop of ice cream and coffee or tea in between.
At 4:00 PM it's time: results and awards ceremony. Prawn crackers will be served with drinks. After all, why would anyone suddenly stop eating?

They decide to concentrate fully on the bridge game. Then the small spring rolls are served.
After one round, someone says: "We really should have offered four hearts there." This conversation then continues over soup.
After three rounds, a complete Chinese buffet is set up. Suddenly, it turns out that everyone can shuffle their cards remarkably quickly.
You've just decided that you've really eaten enough. Now it's time for ice cream.
The winner will be announced at the end. But with prawn crackers and a drink in sight, a poor placement can suddenly be seen in a surprisingly positive light.
