Some photos spontaneously make me want a milkshake.
No, really.
I see an old-fashioned American diner, a jukebox in the corner, and I expect someone to put on "Blue Suede Shoes" any minute. I even had to look twice to see if it was an advertisement or a film still.
That turns out to be exactly the intention.
On Saturday, September 26th, The Wieners will transport De Zwaan in Uitgeest back to the time when Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Fats Domino dominated the charts. No glitter suits or impersonators here, but four musicians who recreate the atmosphere of the 1950s so authentically that you can't help but tap your foot along.
How to enter an American diner
I find it impressive when a band arouses curiosity with just one photo.
This photo really says it all. The red sofas, the old advertising signs on the wall, a cup of coffee on the table, and a guitar that looks like it could start playing at any moment. You don't feel like you're going to a concert, but rather like you're stepping into a completely different time for a moment.
And that's exactly what The Wieners have been doing for over twenty years.
More than just Elvis
Of course, you hear music by Elvis Presley. But thankfully, it doesn't stop there.
Buddy Holly, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, Dion & The Belmonts, and many other artists from the early rock 'n' roll era are also featured. Between songs, the band members share anecdotes about the music and the time in which these classics were created. Not a history lesson, but entertaining stories that enhance the atmosphere even further.
An evening where it's hard to sit still.
I'd almost bet that some spectators will find themselves quietly tapping their feet. Or singing along. Or both.
And frankly... that seems to be exactly the intention.
