Fancy a long hike through dunes, polders, rugged industry, and hidden history? Then the IJmondpad is just the thing for you. This 77-kilometer circular hike takes you through the IJmond region in three days and starts at the Kennemer Duin campsite Geversduin in Heemskerk.
What makes the IJmondpad so special?
The IJmondpad trail shows you the diversity of this region: from stately country estates and tranquil nature to impressive industrial heritage. You'll walk through the municipalities of Heemskerk , Beverwijk , and Velsen , each with its own distinctive landscape.
On the way you will pass:
Fort Veldhuis – one of the oldest concrete forts of the Amsterdam defense line
The atmospheric Engelmundus Church in Velsen-Zuid, originally built in 690
Open polder landscapes , residential areas, forests and parks
And (during the summer months): a water taxi crossing across the North Sea Canal from IJmuiden to Wijk aan Zee. A wonderful extra!
